Bridge to Brews Run

April 19th 2009 we ran the Bridge to Brews run in Portland. Chiyoko ran the 8k & I ran the 10k, both races started at the same time and finished together the 10 race just added a bit in the middle. The main attraction was getting to run across the mile long Freemont Brige (& the 2 free beers & food after the race helped! :^).... The weather was perfect and there was the added excitement of having to run across the tracks in front of an Amtrak train before the gates came down across the course though the policeman who was watching me wasn't to impressed about that!

Two cool plants

Two plants are looking great in the garden this week.

Aesculus neglecta 'Erythroblastos'
Everybody knows the Horsechestnut Tree, not so many have seen this great little relative with much greater garden appeal.

Podophyllum delavayi
It's taken 3 years of tender loving care to get this plant established in the garden!

Another Anniversary!!

OK so since we got married in February but didn't have the public wedding & party until April we now get 2 wedding anniversaries a year :^).... We decided to go down to the Edgefield for dinner and walk around the gardens.

Checking out the Caravan.

Jane, Maddy & Anwen all went to Mum & Dad's for a few days over Easter, here they all are squashed into the Caravan :^).....

More Waterfalls than you can shake a stick at..

I'm setting out over the next couple of years to photograph all the Waterfalls on the Oregon side of the Columbia River Gorge. I'm using this great website for info & locations.

Long way to go but this is what we have so far!

Gunnera's Back!

The Gunnera wouldn't wait any longer for Spring, or for me to remove the winter mulch it just burst through it!!
You can see some more Spring Garden photos here.

After the Hardy Plant Sale we stopped by downtown Portland to look at the flowering Cherries. This is a very important Spring time activity for the Japanese. Unfortunately we were about a week late & the Cherries were past their best :^(..

Today was the day for the Spring Hardy Plant Society of Oregon Plant Sale. Always a day that's marked on the calendar!! We found a few new toys for the garden.

Goodbye GI Joes :^(......

Victims of the economic times or brain dead owners? GI Joes was a popular Northwest chain of Outdoor stores for over 60 years. In 2007 they were purchased by a California Company, they changed the name to from GI Joes to Joes & tried to make the store "trendy" - Great Idea guys it started loosing money pretty much right way & now it's bankrupt!! Were will I buy my camping supplies now??

Pickle takes a break!

Pickle cat napping when she's supposed to be potting plants.

Eagle Creek Trail

Sunday April 5th Chiyoko & I headed up the Eagle Creek Trail with Nancy, Mariko & Pierre. It was the first warm Spring like weekend of the year & lots of people were out on the trail. Weve never hiked it this early before so there was a lot more water in the creeks than we are used to seeing. We went as far as Seven and a half mile camp were we hit quite a bit of snow, stopped for lunch then returned in the afternoon.
