Old Growth & an old Volcano Crater.

A poor weather forecast that never really materialized changed our original weekend plans so we decided to knock some local trails of the list that we hadn't hiked before. We had 3 we wanted to tick off the list, Multnomah Creek Way, the Bell Creek Trail & the Multnomah Spur Trail. With the help of some miles on the Oneonta, Horsetail Creek & Larch Mountain trails we were able to hike all three in one 16 mile loop.

Top of the hut, on top of the mountain...

Last Sunday a group of us climbed Mt. Adams. Lots of snow this year, the old lookout was still mostly covered in snow! Always a great climb & this year we had perfect weather.

Water Water Everywhere.....

Last Friday we had a chance to go on one of the Bull Run Watershed Tours. The Bull Run is over 120 miles of off limits Watershed that supplies the Portland area with its famous unfiltered drinking water. The tour took us into the forbidden zone on the East side from Lolo Pass, we had a chance to visit the Bull Run Lake, the head waters of the Bull Run River & both reservoirs before we left the watershed on the West side near Dodge Park.

Deer are BACK!!

Chiyoko was wondering what had eaten all her strawberries (leaves too) & blueberries. Now we know - the deer are back!

Perseid Meteor Shower

Thursday evening we went up to Larch Mountain to watch the Perseid meteor shower. There were quite a few people up there and more were coming when we headed for home at 11:00pm. No luck capturing one in a photo though so I had to make do with this photo of a plane instead :^)..

Timberline Lodge to Zigzag

Sunday Eric & I hit the trail for a long one way car shuttle hike from Timberline Lodge down to Zigzag were we had left a second car at the end of the Zigzag Mountain Trail. We set out West on the PCT to the Paradise Park trail junction then after a short jog on the Paradise Park trail we hiked the full length of the Zigzag Mountain trail 775. With a side trip to Cast lake the map put this at somewhere around 18 miles but by the time we were done the GPS had clocked just under 21.
